    • Secure, in-person assessments ensuring graduates demonstrate essential knowledge and skills.
    • AI-assisted ‘open’ assessments encouraging students to leverage AI as a learning tool responsibly.
  • Require students to apply critical thinking and acknowledge AI use in their work, preparing them for real-world AI applications.

Innovative AI Initiatives

The University of Sydney is actively shaping AI education through:

  • Cogniti AI Assistant – A university-developed AI tool that allows teachers to create custom AI agents to provide personalized feedback, guidance, and academic support 24/7.
  • AI in Education Guide – A student-developed resource outlining ethical AI use in learning and assessments.
  • Microsoft Copilot Partnership – Providing free access to generative AI tools for students and staff, alongside training workshops to enhance AI literacy.
  • Generative AI Steering Committee – A governance body ensuring responsible and ethical AI integration across university programs.
