Role Overview
Handshake is seeking a Research Scientist specializing in Human–AI Interaction to lead research on how AI systems integrate with real human work across professional domains.
Key Responsibilities
- Define and develop benchmarks for human–AI interaction and jobs-to-be-done evaluation
- Design and run empirical studies, including controlled experiments and field studies
- Measure human effort, time, quality, and outcomes when working with AI copilots
- Build and prototype AI systems, benchmark harnesses, and data pipelines
- Collaborate with engineering, product, and UXR teams
- Publish research and open-source code; present at top-tier venues such as CHI
Requirements
- PhD or equivalent in HCI, Computer Science, Cognitive Science, or related field
- 3+ years of academic or industry research experience post-PhD
- Strong publication record in top-tier HCI venues (CHI required)
- Expertise in experimental design, measurement, and mixed-methods research
- Strong Python coding and data analysis skills
- Experience with LLM APIs or AI-assisted tooling preferred
Additional Information
Location: San Francisco, California, United States. Compensation: $350,000 – $420,000 annually.
