Senior Data Engineer role leading Azure-based data platforms to support large-scale, AI-driven research at a new university research centre.

Role Overview

Manchester Metropolitan University is launching a new Centre for Digital Data Research (CDDR) and is seeking a Senior Data Engineer to design and optimise cloud-based data platforms supporting advanced analytics and AI-driven research.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead design and optimisation of the Azure-based CDDR platform
  • Design and manage data pipelines, Lakehouse and data warehouse architectures
  • Collaborate with researchers, data scientists and IT colleagues
  • Promote best practices in data governance, security and automation
  • Ensure platforms are scalable, secure and monitored

Requirements

  • Proven experience in data warehousing and data ingestion
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Azure services including Data Lake, Synapse, Azure SQL and ADF
  • Understanding of modern data architectures, ETL/ELT and AI workloads
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills
